What Is Zoom! Whitening?
Zoom! is a professional, clinically proven teeth-whitening system that uses a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel activated by a specially designed LED light. The entire in-office treatment takes approximately 60 minutes and can brighten your teeth by 4 to 8 shades in a single visit.
Zoom! works by breaking up deep-set stains caused by coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, and natural aging — stains that ordinary toothpaste and over-the-counter strips cannot touch. Unlike generic whitening kits, Zoom! is performed under the direct supervision of Dr. Li, ensuring both maximum effectiveness and your comfort throughout the process.
What to Expect: Step by Step
- Pre-treatment evaluation. Dr. Li reviews your oral health history and examines your teeth and gums to confirm you are a good candidate for whitening. Existing restorations (crowns, veneers, fillings) do not whiten, so we discuss realistic outcomes upfront.
- Protection of lips and gums. A gentle retractor holds your lips back, and a protective barrier is applied to your gum tissue so only your tooth enamel is exposed to the whitening gel.
- Three 15-minute Zoom! LED activation sessions. The hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to your teeth and activated by the Zoom! LED light three times, each session lasting 15 minutes. You can relax, listen to music, or watch TV during treatment.
- Rinse & reveal. After the final session the gel is removed, your mouth is rinsed, and you can see your dramatically whiter smile right away.
- Custom take-home trays included. Every Zoom! treatment at Gentle Family Dentistry includes custom-fitted whitening trays and a supply of touch-up gel so you can maintain your results at home on your own schedule.
Is Zoom! Whitening Safe?
Yes. Zoom! has been used safely by millions of patients worldwide and is one of the most studied whitening systems available. Because treatment is performed and supervised by Dr. Li, any pre-existing sensitivity issues are identified and addressed before you begin.
Some patients experience mild tooth sensitivity or gum tingling during or immediately after treatment. This is temporary and typically resolves on its own within 24 to 48 hours. We recommend a sensitivity-relief toothpaste in the days leading up to your appointment if you are prone to sensitivity.
Zoom! vs. Over-the-Counter Whitening
Not all whitening products are the same. Here is how professional Zoom! stacks up against drugstore alternatives:
- Results: Zoom! delivers up to 8 shades of improvement in a single hour. Over-the-counter strips and trays typically produce 1 to 2 shades of improvement over several weeks.
- Supervision: Zoom! is dentist-supervised, meaning your oral health is assessed first and the procedure is monitored throughout. OTC products are used without professional oversight.
- Custom fit: Our take-home trays are custom-fabricated to your teeth for even, consistent coverage. Generic store-bought trays often fit poorly, leading to uneven results and gel leakage onto gum tissue.
- Longevity: Professional whitening with maintenance trays produces long-lasting results. OTC treatments are shorter-lived and must be repeated more frequently.
